Time-Saving Cleaning Tips

Not so fun fact: On average, Americans spend about 6 hours per week cleaning their home.

If there is one way to immediately limit the amount of time cleaning your home, it's by hiring MaidPro to do the job for you. But we get it... Your family lives in your house, so even with recurring cleans from MaidPro, it can often be time-consuming to "keep up".

To help you keep that freshly cleaned house feel in-between PRO visits, we have compiled 8 easy, time-saving cleaning tips for your home:

1. Work from Top to Bottom

To clean from top to bottom, we recommend starting with dusting higher areas such as ceiling fans, light fixtures, and corners of ceilings. Then, move onto middle areas such as shelving, windowsills, cabinets, and other mid-surface areas. Finally, end with lower surfaces such as countertops, tabletops, furniture, and floors. Cleaning from top to bottom is a fundamental habit that enhances the effectiveness of your cleaning routine and prevent recontamination. As gravity can pull dust, dirt, and other materials downward, using this strategy ensures that you're not dirtying an already cleaned surface. Additionally, cleaning from top to bottom eliminates the need to reclean any surfaces or floors, saving time and effort in the long run.

2. All-Purpose Cleaner

Using an all-purpose cleaner allows for versatility and time efficiency - and saves you money! All-purpose cleaners are designed to be used on multiple surfaces such as appliances, countertops, glass, tile, wood, etc. This allows you to streamline the cleaning process rather than having to constantly switch between cleaners. You can use only one cleaner for most cleaning areas, allowing for a more efficient and manageable cleaning routine. Be sure to check the label and test before use.

3. Microfiber Cloths

Microfiber cloths are made from synthetic fibers such as nylon and polyester that are blended together to create a highly effective, dirt, bacteria, and allergen trapping cloth. By using a microfiber cloth, it will pick up dirt easier rather than spreading it around, resulting in a cleaner surface with limited effort. The high absorbency of the cloth reduces streaks and water marks, while holding up to seven times their weight in liquids. Microfiber cloths can be washed in the washing machine and used again, which is better for the environment - and your pocketbook.

4. Use Dishwasher for Assistance

Using your dishwasher for more than just your dishes is a clever and effective way to increase the cleaning process around your home. You can leverage your dishwasher by cleaning kitchen items such as stove burner grates, range hood filters, and kitchen utensils. Additionally, you can clean other items around that house that may be considered dishwasher safe, such as, pet bowls, vent covers, garden tools, light fixtures, toothbrush holders, vases, and more! For using the dishwasher effectively, we recommend checking the manufacturer guidelines for any safety and washability concerns before placing in the dishwasher. Additionally, we recommend using the top rack for smaller and more delicate items along with avoiding placing electronic and fragile items in the dishwasher.

5. Delegate Tasks

Cleaning can feel like an overwhelming job, especially if you're cleaning up after others. Delegating tasks is important when it comes to cleaning because it allows you to divide and conquer cleaning tasks, resulting in a more efficient cleaning process. By doing this, you can tackle multiple parts of your home at the same time, allowing everyone to focus on their individual cleaning tasks. This can reduce stress and the overwhelming feeling of having to clean alone. We recommend delegating tasks based on preference or the strengths of the individual to ensure a fun and thorough cleaning process. Teaching kids to complete household responsibilities is a win-win!

6. Clean as You Go

Adapting a "clean as you go" cleaning style can minimize the potential of overwhelming messes. Cleaning as you go can come in forms of simple tasks such as, wiping up spills after they occur, putting away items after use, and tidying up after activities or events (eating, cooking). By being proactive, it reduces the need for long and intensive cleaning sessions.

What is Lorem Ipsum? Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum. Why do we use it? It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using 'Content here, content here', making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for 'lorem ipsum' will uncover many web sites still in their infancy. Various versions have evolved over the years, sometimes by accident, sometimes on purpose (injected humour and the like).
